HEAL COUNTRY HOODIE

My name is Tiarra Mawson, I am a Garawa woman from Borroloola. I have designed the Borroloola Naidoc shirt for 2021. The theme this year is Heal Country, this painting means a lot to me, my land and my culture. The paintings story represents the four clan groups of Borroloola, Garawa, Yauyla Gurdanji, and Mara. The different coloured dots painted in this picture are different colours to show our four tribes, different colours but all the same because we are all connected. We are one, we stand united and have fought together to protect our country, out water, our sacred sited and our culture. The painting shows water running through our town of Borroloola which we have protected along with the guidance of our ancestors for many years and we will continue to do this for many years to come.
